oldware.jpeg Otto Charles (O.C.) Cluss founded his lumber company in 1918 in Uniontown, PA. The company was incorporated the following year, and O.C.was elected president and general manager, a position he would hold for the next forty years.

The 1940's saw the advent of the Cluss millwork shop, where skilled area carpenters produced fine quality cabinetry and detail work.  Included in their many contracts was the total millwork contract for Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. Cluss Lumber still operates a millwork shop today at our home office in Uniontown.

O.C.'s sons John and Charles, and their brother-in-law, C.J. Barnes (Barney) established O.C. Cluss Lumber as a significant supplier of construction and building materials in the tri-state area. In 1972, they opened a "modern" home center and showroom across from their old lumber yard location.  This firmly established O.C. Cluss as a regional supplier for both retail and contractor sales.  As Charles' sons joined the company, a new era began in the home improvement industry.  Under Charles' guidance, this current generation has taken their grandfather's old-fashioned lumberyard and helped it evolve into the O.C. Cluss Lumber and Home Center of today.  Additional Pennsylvania yards and showrooms opened in Greensburg in 1986 and Center Township in 1990. A Central Distribution Center for commodities was opened in Greensburg in 1996. In 1997, Cluss Lumber purchased the Brown's Lumber yards in West Virginia, which included locations in Fairmont, Buckhannon and Summersville. Later that year, the Fairmont facility was replaced with a newly-built $3 million retail store and distribution center, making Cluss one of the leaders in the building materials industry.

Today O.C. Cluss Lumber prides itself on superior customer service for both professional contractors and serious do-it-yourselfers, Cluss Lumber offers easy financing, delivery throughout the tri-state area, computerized kitchen and deck and free blueprint takeoff service.  Cluss remains competitive through their membership in one of the nation's largest purchasing co-ops, Lumbermen's Merchandising Corporation. LMC purchases in excess of $2 billion worth of lumber and building materials per year.

Cluss Lumber is a family-owned business.  Starting with O.C. Cluss in 1919, the company president has always been a Cluss while other offices have been held by various board members. Charles remains active as Chairman. The owners are C. Christopher Cluss, President and Michael S. Cluss, Vice President. O.C. Cluss Lumber has over 250 local employees in our Pennsylvania and West Virginia operations.
